William Quigley (b.1961) is a contemporary American artist with a long and winding career, bumbling from coast to coast, exhibiting with some of the greatest painters of his time. Now in New York, in the land of his icons and later acquaintances, he’s continued to make a name for himself through commissions of famous people and through publicized relations with sometimes infamous people. Recently, the most publicized of these events being an accidental portrait of Donald Trump and the painting’s involvement in the former president’s commercial fraud charges. He has also dabbled in the NFT art scene, working closely with an entrepreneur of the same name. Despite these headline worthy characteristics, Quigley’s continuous gestural abstraction practice shows serious talent. He’s clearly got a distinct ability to combine the greater societal context to his abstract work of art, weaving together pop culture sentiments and personal sentiments in an alluring manner.

In what can only be described as ‘smug,’ Quigley has presented 4BYSIX with a painting that’s more of a proposition than a portrait. “If you donate a million lbs. or $ to 4BYSIX + the homeless I will make you a better painting.” William’s dare has completely genuinely and ingeniously twisted our formula. Throughout his career, he has reoccuringly painted for charity, fundraising, or awareness, using his skill for publicity to the benefit of thousands. If this simple painting’s question were to be answered, it could be one of the most successful of his world changing schemes.

Popcorn and cascade bidding:

If a bid is placed during the last 2 minutes of the auction, the closing time will be automatically extended for an additional 2 minutes from the time the last bid was placed. The item will close once all bidding activity has stopped. This is recommended for high-value and popular items. Popcorn bidding prevents bidders from waiting until the last minute to bid without giving the bidders who were outbid an opportunity to rebid.

Cascade bidding ensures auction lots close at staggering times, one after another. For example, the first lot of an auction might close at 12:01pm, the second lot would close at 12:02pm, then the third lot at 12:03pm, etc.
