Esteban Ocampo-Giraldo (b.1987) reminds us that we are pattern seeking creatures. We find comfort in repetition, just as we find comfort in our memories. His paintings often relish in these two comforts, depicting the perfect row of crops by an old home, or loved ones encircling a television. However, with comfort comes melancholy and with memory comes humility.

Ocampo-Giraldo paints fading snapshots, specific places and faces that feel too good to return to. Each beautiful moment put to canvas is a moment immortalised, yet sadly in the past. On a comical note, each memory is decontextualised and presented without the rationale behind its becoming. Like a first kiss, tenth kiss, or, well, most kisses, Ocampo-Giraldo frames his subjects awkwardly mid embrace, remembering all of his previous lives a little too clearly.
