Katharina Arndt is a contemporary artist from Germany who lives and works between Berlin and Barcelona. She studied Fine Arts at Braunschweig School of Art and later on obtained her Master of Fine Arts by John Armleder. Her painting is a satirical perspective on modernity and the absurd complexities we wrap ourselves in for the sake of society. They are fast and colourful works that ironise mass consumption and abundance in a digital age.
Arndt uses her work as a reminder of these “fake worlds” and how to use them creatively as opposed to unhealthily, like Instagram. Instagram to the artist is a business tool, but can very easily become an addiction mistaken for real life. She paints in an honest, childlike style in order to get to the root of the message. A child doesnt ego-ise, they deliver simple stories devoid of superficiality. Arndt aims to cut through that superficial layer of contemporary life by painting the “filters” that often obscure us. Katharina Arndt has recently held solo exhibitions in Greece, Saigon, Berlin, and Bratislava.
