Awarded artist Mark Posey (b. 1985) is a painter living and working in downtown Los Angeles. He earned his BA in History from UC Berkeley in 2010, and his MFA from the Academy of Art in San Francisco in 2012.
Mark Posey uses art to place himself in time, referencing the past in order to highlight our bizarre relationship with the present. His work is often a reinterpretation of traditional subjects in which the use of a contemporary visual language attempts to reorient his audience’s awareness of the visual past. Over the course of his arts career, his style has morphed from a pop-art sensibility to something completely unique to himself. Harnessing the unpredictable nature of his materials, Posey works with his medium to conjure objects and the tangible artefacts of history.
His recent work is a grimy and hyper-real collage of elements documenting the touch points of a modern world, featuring shoes, signage, or memorabilia. Mark Posey’s paintings are ephemeral studies on the passage of time and unrestricted portraits of what we left behind.
