Keeenue, born 1992, is a Japanese-born multidisciplinary creative specialising in a variety of artistic activities including painting, creating original products and murals. Based just outside of Tokyo, Keeenue’s creative mark can be seen across the capital city and beyond. Recently, she has created eye-catching murals in collaboration with high profile clients like Nike, Facebook and Shake Shack: they are impossible to miss, comprising warped figures, eye-popping colours and sprawling lines. Always conscious of not wanting to bore people, Keeenue’s approach of unbridled creativity sets her work apart from what you might normally expect of a typical Japanese artist.
Far from being just visually appealing, however, Keeenue’s artwork encompasses vital themes of social justice and being an outsider. Her pieces of fine art, such as Odd One Out, are increasingly relevant and meaningful at a time when social movements highlighting discrimination against Asians and Black Lives Matter are at the forefront of people’s minds.
Effortlessly captivating, Keeenue’s work has been exhibited across Japan: at Delta Art Fair in Osaka, HARUKAITO by island in Tokyo and 7 Gallery in Kyoto, amongst others. Internationally, her work has appeared at Hoxton Arches in East London.
