"Like hummingbirds, I'm uncontrollably attracted to anything red. Especially to paint on. So when I saw the project, I offered" - Dan Witz

Dan Witz (b.1957) is a Chicago born and Brooklyn based street artist whose career came into being during the wild west years of NYC in the 80s. Amidst the rubble of a crime riddled city, the young street artist and punk sought counter-culture in classical realism, a genre so far removed from the art world of the time. But instead of falling into the bubble of a classical sensibility, he decided to merge a world known and a world admired, resulting in his traditional landscapes with contemporary narratives.

His practice comes from a deep admiration for the old masters and the transformative power of paint on a flat surface to create power, light, and energy. It is this miracle at the spark of all of his work, continuously evolving the tradition of academic realism. He captures the same fascinations which have enraptured artists for millennia; that of unconscious instinct and the vestigial passion of bodies at their extreme. Influenced by the creative techniques of old, inspired by the societal instability of the present, he paints mosh-pits and orgies as the primordial call to our ancestors in battle.

Popcorn bidding: If a bid is placed during the last 5 minutes of the auction, the closing time will be automatically extended for an additional five minutes from the time the last bid was placed. The item will close once all bidding activity has stopped. This is recommended for high-value and popular items. Popcorn bidding prevents bidders from waiting until the last minute to bid without giving the bidders who were outbid an opportunity to rebid.
