Jingyi Wang (b. 1989) is a Chinese artist based in New York City who specialises in oil painting. She studied in China at the Central Academy of Fine Arts with further education from the New York Academy of Art, and while in New York was awarded a residency where she painted in Claude Monet's garden in Giverny, France. She was introduced to impressionism at age 14 and has worked toward becoming a professional painter ever since. Her work centres on plants; the anthropomorphized cactus mirrors the human, tough on the outside but soft on the inside. Wang is interested in the dichotomies provided by plant life: fragility and indifference, growth and hardship, freedom and stubbornness. She uses the characteristics of cacti as a reference to herself, exploring identity, thoughts, dreams, and emotions. Jingyi Wang's relentless creativity is always evolving, pushing surrealism into the contemporary aesthetic and is rooted in a mastery of observation and acute perception.
