German artist Marius Seidlitz (b. 1985) investigates the complex truths around the body and its inhabitant’s sense of self. Often featuring a diversity of female figures, he abstracts and contorts the form to display certain imperfections in the eternal search for beauty. Seidlitz' definition of beauty can be found somewhere between attraction and repulsion, the thing that you need to stop looking at but can't. He uses oil, acrylic, and spray paint to create seductive layers of colourful curves and figurative nudity. With machine-like qualities, these figures can be seen as hyper-precise objects in their creation, yet when thought of as organic bodies their perfected structures break down; reminiscent of the messy consciousness within. This is because beauty is never found in perfection. In Seidlitz’ dynamic paintings, one can find a reminder to seek comfort in their complexity and the virtues of vulnerability. Marius Seidlitz has exhibited recently in Germany, Beijing, and Hong Kong.
