Paint on repurposed London bus panel

Dancan Olunga (age 15)

The Wajukuu children are incredible, hilarious and full of spirit. Over the weekend workshop they flitted between two states: intently focused on their paintings or bouncing off of the walls, doing little dances and singing songs. They became great friends and in them I see bright futures.

This panel was painted by Dancan Olunga. It is 30 x 44cm, and made of acrylic on aluminium. The sale of this painting will go directly toward the Wajukuu Art Project of Nairobi, Kenya.

Olunga is a reserved, but incredibly talented young painter. In the workshop he had quite the audience enthralled in his every brush stroke. He’s been with Wajukuu for 6 years and has painted the ritual of collecting water, a difficult task of carrying jerry cans to communal water sources. The yellow water containers are a poetic symbol for the culture which has been wonderfully captured in this painting.

Popcorn bidding: If a bid is placed during the last 5 minutes of the auction, the closing time will be automatically extended for an additional five minutes from the time the last bid was placed. The item will close once all bidding activity has stopped. This is recommended for high-value and popular items. Popcorn bidding prevents bidders from waiting until the last minute to bid without giving the bidders who were outbid an opportunity to rebid.
