Born in Manila, TRNZ (Terence) was introduced to the arts through dubbed Japanese anime on local television. After receiving his BFA in advertising he spent the following years as an art director for a global advertising agency. In 2017 he moved towards visual arts using what he learned in advertising, embracing different mediums to explore his message. TNRZ creates narrative and unique characters with deep connections to his identity. His illustrations and paintings show the vulnerability of youth depicted against the mass of oversized clothing and the weight of the world. He paints in a dusty and subdued palette, picturing slow moments of pause after an unsaid emotional climax. The paintings frequently see a crying boy in a party hat holding balloons as the artist grapples with his upbringing and moments that made him who he is in the present. From music festival animations to large scale fabric sculpture, TRNZ spans many mediums and is constantly growing.
