Valdo Manullang (b. 1990) is a visual artist whose practice merges hyperrealism and surrealism to explore the depths of the human soul. His work, often centered on childlike figures rendered with striking precision, becomes a reflection on innocence, transformation, and the shared journey of spiritual growth that unites all beings.
Working from his studio, Nimrod Studio, in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, Manullang constructs imaginary worlds where dream and reality coexist. Through the delicate interplay of black and white achieved with charcoal powder, and the richness of deep tones in oil and acrylic, his portraits transcend the visible. Figures emerge from monochrome backgrounds as if suspended between waking and dreaming — silent witnesses to the cycles of life and the quiet continuity of the soul.
