Anthony Lister, born 1980, is an Australian-born creator best known within the lowbrow and street art movements. He is noted for his abstract approach that has been described as “controlled chaos,” taking the rougher techniques of “Bad” Painting and contrasting them with the practices of graffiti art, to create pieces that are immediately eye-catching.
Lister’s works of art are controversial and provoking: often leaving the viewer free to come to their own conclusions about the messages within his work. It is perhaps for this reason that he is regarded as one of the top fifty most collectable Australian artists, having worked with global brands such as Hermès, Vogue and Mercedes-Benz. Lister’s work has also been extensively exhibited, featuring in the National Gallery of Australia, and at solo exhibitions in Sydney, Los Angeles and London.
