GRAFFLEX (b. 1982) is a Korean artist pushing graphics to the boundaries of clothing, architecture, toys, and paintings. His style, reminiscent of cartoons and hip-hop graphics, chops and screws childhood iconography into something more akin to pop and street art. By reinterpreting familiar objects and images, Grafflex tries to obscure the barrier between the mainstream and the exclusive, blurring high accessibility and high-brow. Beyond his collaborations with Nike, Mercedes-Benz, and Samsung, he uses the white wall gallery to explore form and flow. His recent solo exhibition, 'Insert Coin,' is the perfect example of his mastery of abstraction, using iconic colours and shapes he distils the video game down to an essential visual language.
