Turkish artist Erkut Terliksiz is a world builder. Each painting adds a new species, character or narrative to this deconstructed environment. Behind the uncanny faces of a toothed man or twisted creature lie a reason for existence, whether the audience knows it or not. Presumably, in the unending cavern of Terliksiz’ imagination exists a machine pumping out these charismatic permutations of living beings with backstories, families, and lives to continue living in a canvas rectangle.
According to the artist, his world is a utopia. He, however, doesn't take the role of governor, instead he gifts its inhabitants with the tools to play with and define the world for themselves. Erkut Terliksiz was born in Adana in 1978 and lives and works in Istanbul. He completed his undergraduate education at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Graphic Design Department in 2002. Since 2007, he has participated in group exhibitions held in Australia, England, Spain, Germany, China and Iran, as well as solo exhibitions in Turkey, the Netherlands and Italy.
