Eva Beresin (b. 1955) is a Hungarian-born, Vienna-based painter whose vivid and psychologically charged works explore the absurdities and contradictions of contemporary life. Shaped by early experiences in Budapest’s coffee houses and surrounded by her father’s eclectic art collection, Beresin developed a deep visual sensitivity from a young age. Her paintings distort conventional perspectives through bold colour, expressive brushwork, and unexpected reversals, creating carnivalesque scenes that balance humour and unease.
A graduate of the School of Visual Arts in Budapest, Beresin has exhibited extensively across Europe and the United States. In 2024, the Albertina Museum in Vienna dedicated a major solo exhibition, Thick Air, to her work, accompanied by a monograph published by Hatje Cantz. Her recent exhibitions include Shared Fictions at Ruttkowski;68 (Düsseldorf), Offstage at Charim Galerie (Vienna), and Absorbed by Digestion at Althuis Hofland (Amsterdam).
Beresin’s world is one where chaos, humour, and introspection coexist, a vivid reflection of the human condition rendered with both empathy and irreverence.
