The most recent production by Italian artist Filippo Cegani, b. 1993, questions the commodification of Christian religious iconography in the post-digital age. Imagery and symbols associated with faith are approached through a spectrum that fuses influences of classical art and contemporary media channels. Hyper-real and intensely close-up paintings of holy cards and divine statues celebrate the binary relationship between pain and ecstasy. Filtered through the author's personal reflection, the pieces are consistently endowed with a crisp and glossy touch. Cegani's work has been exhibited at Galeria Fran Reus, Palma; Grove, London; Plan X Gallery, Capri; Better Go South, Berlin and IRL NYC, among many others.
