Holly Silius is a British multimedia artist based between Los Angeles and Europe. Trained as a SFX make up artist, her two decade career has seen her working with some of the most significant models, celebrities, and public figures of our time, melding make-up art, wearable art, casting, and photography. As well as pushing the boundaries of wearable art, she has also used her skills in SFX with the Royal Opera House and in film and TV. Her work primarily grapples with the representation of human form, referencing the ways in which European art history has struggled with differing depictions of the body. Subverting the ideals of history lies at the heart of her practice; twisting, snapping, or curating the details of the human form in order to experiment with its fascination. In a recent work titled Phantom Feels, Silius explores transmasculinity through sculpture. Her piece goes against the historically gender normative sculptural body, setting the atypical form in stone as reference to the psychological boundary of a body.
