PASCAL, WELCOME BACK, THIS IS YOUR THIRD WORK FOR VEHICLES FOR CHANGE. WHAT KEEPS DRAWING YOU BACK TO 4BYSIX?

I love your concept and basic idea, plus you keep offering me such attractive pieces of metal to work on.

A FERRARI F12 IS A VERY LOADED OBJECT BEFORE YOU’VE TOUCHED IT. WHY THIS CAR, AND WHAT DID YOU WANT TO DO TO IT?

The shape of the wings would be beautiful already if they came of an old Dacia, but to realise they‘d possibly been through accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3,1 seconds is an electrifying thought. The lively stillness of an oil painting feels to be a good match.

"FASTLANE", 2026

By Pascal Möhlmann

YOU’RE PAINTING ON LACQUERED BODYWORK, NOT CANVAS. HOW DID THE SURFACE CHANGE THE WAY YOU WORKED?

The lacquered steel, or aluminum or whatever it is lacks the grippy structure and the rebound of stretched canvases, that I‘m so accustomed to. So in order to maintain my violent brushwork and mix the colours alla prima on the surface, I needed to add loads more paint and be a bit more attentive with the linseed oil.

Also I knew, if I were to fuck this one up, I couldn't just order a new set of F12 wings and start all over, like I could have with conventional canvases.

THERE’S A REAL TENSION IN FASTLANE BETWEEN THE SOFTNESS OF THE BODY AND THE HARD GLOSS OF THE MACHINE. WHAT WERE YOU CHASING IN THAT CONTRAST?

Both qualities are seductive in their own way. The Ferrari wings aren't simply hard and glossy; their shape carries a sense of aggressive masculinity. They remind me of armour, or even a weapon, objects designed to project power and dominance.

By separating the two wings and leaving a four-centimetre gap running through the centre, I wanted to amplify that contrast. The softest and most intimate part of the painted body is absent, existing only in the viewer's imagination. It becomes a space filled with possibility air, ether, anticipation. Perhaps it's the same air that rushes past when the Ferrari is accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds.

THE TITLE READS AS SWAGGER AND THEN AS IRONY. WHAT DOES “THE FAST LANE” MEAN TO YOU HERE?

To me, the fast lane is about the desire to get somewhere quicker, moving at full throttle with intensity and purpose. In this work, the space between the two Ferrari wings invites the viewer to imagine what lies beyond: the ultimate destination, the source from which we all come and, in one way or another, keep returning to.

I'm fully aware that the work approaches ideas of objectification with a certain amount of humour and cheek, and that's intentional. FASTLANE plays with those associations while also pointing towards something deeper. The female figure represents origin, ignition, and creative force. Her power lies not only in her presence, but in her ability to attract, inspire, and generate desire. The work sits somewhere between celebration, provocation, and reflection, allowing those tensions to coexist.

THIS WORK WILL BE SOLD TO FUND 4BYSIX’S COMMUNITY PROGRAMMES - DOES IT CHANGE ANYTHING FOR YOU, KNOWING THE PAINTING BECOMES SOMETHING PRACTICAL FOR SOMEONE ELSE’S LIFE?

A little bit, yes. But to be very honest, when I work on a painting my only concern is the work itself. I do not consider the wealthy collector that‘s gonna hang it, or leave it in a crate (btw that thought would kill me), nor the good it‘s proceeds would do when auctioned by you guys.

Obviously though, I do love the idea!
