Aleah Chapin (b. 1986) is an American painter who pairs a perceptive command of rendering the body with an equally fluent language of environment and atmosphere. Early work fixed on the women of her upbringing in the Pacific Northwest, and has since pushed into new territory, retaining the grounding of realism within an ambience of the intangible.
A sense of urgency propels Chapin's paintings, a desire to be enveloped by the composition before language catches up, the physicality of the body held in tension with the ethos of being.
Chapin has exhibited at Flowers Gallery in London, Hong Kong, and New York, the Belvedere Museum in Vienna, and the National Portrait Gallery in London. She lives and works in Los Angeles.
