Arthur Lemonier (b. 1998) has a practice that unfolds as an intense and sensitive exploration of the body as a site of tension, metamorphosis and social projection. Through an expressive and deliberately ambiguous approach to painting, confusion becomes a generative force: not something to resolve, but a fertile space where opposites collide. Ecstasy and pain, attraction and repulsion, visibility and erasure. Resisting fixed interpretations, his work confronts viewers with their own discomforts and assumptions, inviting them to inhabit complexity rather than simplify it.
His paintings directly challenge the norms that continue to dictate what a body should be: its form, its gender, its function, its legibility. Within this practice, the body is neither corrected nor explained. It is lived, felt and passed through.
Lemonier's references span both tragic narratives and emancipatory figures: lives marked by medical and social violence, alongside icons who have used the body as a space of experimentation, disguise and power. His work carries traces of memory, grief and homage, while also driven by a vibrant, almost celebratory energy that honours those who embody transformation, audacity and fluidity.
