David Shrigley (British, b. 1968) flaunts his deadpan musings through painting, drawing, sculpture, and animation. He relishes in the everyday interactions of human nature and satirizes monotony with an innocent wonder. While his work predates meme culture, it similarly celebrates the sharing of awkward honesty, joy, and affirmation through vulnerable humour and absurd cartoon aesthetics. Shrigley studied at the Glasgow School of Art and has shown work globally, exhibiting in New York, London, Paris, and Copenhagen. His work is part of the impressive collections at The Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art, the Tate, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary Foundation, and the Arts Council Collection.
