Kansas born artist Charlie Roberts works in a variety of mediums moving between painting, wood carving, ceramics, watercolor, drawing, flat figuration, and realistic shaded figuration. Currently working out of his studio in Oslo, his work is ever changing and visually dynamic, featuring fashionable figures contorted into the framed scene. Seemingly in tribute to the seasons, he paints with distinct thematic colouration; a series of pale blues and greens follows a series of pastoral warms with harsh reds. His painting and sculpture reference pop and hip-hop culture, depicting the changing trends of fashion, sport, and environment through a dream-like peripheral lens. The pairing of soft organic figures with his imagined rigid architectural backdrops prove to be both unsettling and delicate.
