Jakob Schöning (b. 1992) is a painter based in Leipzig. His work grows out of a fascination with transformation and a distrust of fixed categories, stable identities, and definitive readings.
Working primarily through the human figure, Schöning uses painting as a space where forms, meanings, and relationships remain in motion. Images are built through layering, revision, and continual reworking, allowing unexpected connections to emerge over time. Human, animal, remembered, and imagined elements often coexist within the same work as states that influence and bleed into one another. For Schöning, a painting is a place where certainty begins to break apart, allowing new possibilities to emerge.

Popcorn and cascade bidding:
If a bid is placed during the last 1 minute of the auction, the closing time will be automatically extended for an additional 1 minute from the time the last bid was placed. The item will close once all bidding activity has stopped. This is recommended for high-value and popular items. Popcorn bidding prevents bidders from waiting until the last minute to bid without giving the bidders who were outbid an opportunity to rebid.
Cascade bidding ensures auction lots close at staggering times, one after another. For example, the first lot of an auction might close at 12:01pm, the second lot would close at 12:02pm, then the third lot at 12:03pm, etc.
