”London Bus Passenger”

Willem Hoeffnagel's (b. 1995) characters have followed him for over a decade, they are nameless placeholders for people in order to intentionally devalue the individual in a scenario. The Dutch painter creates narratives out of a simple vocabulary, allowing the audience to fill in faces, places, emotions. After leaving his studies in entrepreneurship Willem began studying illustration. This too didn't last but after 3 years of absorbing the arts he began painting full time. His iconic characters are made of hair, eyes, and eyebrows, showing that sparsity doesn't detract from meaning. Hoeffnagel has recently exhibited in Hong Kong, Los Angeles, and Paris.
